CAMP MARCELO ADDURU, TUGUEGARAO CITY, CAGAYAN - The Police Regional Office 2 conducted a demilitarization of firearms surrendered by former rebels through the Department’s Enhanced Comprehensive Integration Program (E-CLIP) on December 16, 2021 at the at Police Regional Office 2 Gymnasium.

PBGen. Steve B. Ludan, during the opening ceremony reiterated that the demilitarization of firearms signifies the government’s sincerity and commitment to end the insurgency by destroying the very instruments used in the decades long armed conflict. He also lauded the RTF-ELCAC’s efforts in curbing loose firearms used by the insurgents and he stressed that it is the most effective way to end armed encounters and achieve peace and development.

Demilitarization is the process of destroying firearms by cutting, bending or deforming thus, rendering them unserviceable.

Meanwhile, DILG R2 Division Chief, Maybelle E. Anog, who attended the activity in behalf of Regional Director, Jonathan Paul M. Leusen, Jr., led the actual demilitarization and dismantling of the firearms.

A total of sixty-five assorted firearms were decommissioned using two circular saws to ensure that no parts of the firearms can be recycled or re-used and an open forum on public concerns regarding the E-CLIP and surrendered firearms capped the activity.
