TUGUEGARAO CITY, CAGAYAN – Following President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s proclamation declaring November 29-December 01, 2019 as “Bayanihan Bakunahan, National Vaccination days”, the Department of Health Region 2 in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government and all Local Government Units, officially launched the three-day vaccination effort with the goal of intensifying and increasing vaccine coverage in the region.
The launching was marked with a motorcade, followed by a short program and a pledge of commitment by all participants and agencies concerned at the DOH Regional Office Gymnasium. The DOH, through Assistant Secretary Kenneth Ronquillo and Regional Director Rio L. Magpantay, called on the general public to live out the spirit of bayanihan and participate in the “Bayanihan Bakunahan: Ligtas. Lakas. Buong Pinas” campaign during the 3-day period, either by volunteering at their LGU or encouraging unvaccinated friends and family to register for their shots.
Meanwhile, companies and employers were also encouraged to ensure they have a fully vaccinated workforce in order to guarantee a safe environment for their people. Employees and workers of the government and the private sector, who will be vaccinated during this period, shall not be considered absent from their work, provided that they present proof of vaccination to their respective employers, subject to rules that may be issued by the Department of Labor and Employment and the Civild Service Commission. This event also marks the start of giving of booster shots to healthcare workers, senior citizens and immunocompromised individuals.
The government targets to fully inoculate at least 54 million Filipinos by the end of the year and up to 77 million by end of the first quarter next year, about 20 million more during the second quarter, and the remaining unvaccinated Filipinos by the third quarter.
