
TUGUEGARAO CITY, CAGAYAN, October 5, 2020 --- As the country progresses its way to surviving COVID-19, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 02 spearheaded by the Regional Director, Jonathan Paul M. Leusen, Jr., CESO III, prides its mechanism on continuing the fight for new reforms and supervising the local government units in the province.
Despite the effects of the pandemic, the DILG Region 02, through its Legal Services Unit under the leadership of Atty. Sherick L. Saquing, the Regional Legal Officer, braves its way to continue serving the public through the acceptance of all legal concerns related to the functions of local government officials.
The complaints, which may be aired to the office, are received through walk-in clients by their request for legal assistance; hotline 8888 complaints; requests for legal opinion; SAP complaints; Bantay-Korapsyon complaints; and other complaints relative to the duties and responsibilities of a local government official.
Just recently, the DILG Region 02, through the Office of the Regional Director- Legal Services Unit, successfully launched a first of its kind webinar series entitled "SOLID GEAR: Solid Government through Effective and Attainable Reforms." This two-day virtual seminar was conducted thru Zoom App on September 10-11, 2020.
The webinar series was attended by the Liga ng mga Barangay (LNB) Presidents and their Treasurers and Secretaries, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation Presidents, Field Officers, and the Punong Barangay within the region.
Notable speakers were invited from this seminar such as Atty. Ceasar Ryan Aquino, Prof. Alfredo Sureta, Prof. Eric De Torres, Atty. Romeo Benitez, Atty. Domingo Egon Cayosa, and Usec. Epimaco V. Densing to highlight the Constitutional Reform (CORE) Movement, Bida ang may Disiplina, and the flagship program of the department which is the Bantay-Korapsyon.
Regional Director Jonathan Paul Leusen Jr. said in his welcoming remarks during the webinar series that "these three components work together in unifying our society and to bring economic development in our country."
To date, the Department thru the Legal Unit unceasingly focuses on the complaints turned over and to solve them in accordance with the law and the powers vested to them under Republic Act no. 6975 or the Department of the Interior and Local Government act of 1990.
