Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (May 11, 2018) — With the theme: DILG RO2: Walang Puwang ang Droga sa Matino, Mahusay at Maaasahang Ahensya, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 02 was declared as a Drug Free Workplace by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 02 today, May 10, 2018 at the DILG Regional Office 02, Carig Sur, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

A series of activities was conducted before the DILG RO2 was declared as a drug free workplace. A Drug-Free Workplace Orientation Seminar was conducted on November 6, 2017 at the DILG Regional Office 02. It was participated in by the management and personnel of the DILG Regional Office 02. It was emphasized during the said seminar that the Department should have Anti-Drug Abuse Policy and that mandatory drug testing should be conducted for the declaration of the office as a Drug Free Workplace.

As a result of the seminar, an anti-drug abuse policy was formulated and all DILG regional office personnel underwent a mandatory drug testing to ensure a drug free environment.

LGMED Chief Digna R. Herrera welcomed the participants to the activity. She said as an agency involve in the implementation of the fight against illegal drugs, we need to walk our talk. She lauded the office for being the 3rd agency to be declared as drug free regionwide.

OIC ARD Elpidio Durwin read the Welcome Message of RD Jonathan Paul M. Leusen, Jr. on his behalf. In his message, he said that as one of the agencies which enforces national laws like anti-drug abuse we need to lead the fight against anti-illegal drugs. In order to be Matino, Mahusay at Maasahang” DILG employee,he said that there is a need for drug free employees.

Chief Administrative Officer Renante Rosero of PDEA congratulated the DILG R2 for a job well done. He commended the agency for its efforts to ensure a drug free workplace. He underscored the sustainability of being a drug free environment. He said that the drug free commitment of the agency does not end in the declaration but it signifies the beginning of a life long commitment. He asked the participants to be drug free, not just for the DILG but for their families and children. He ended his message with a quote “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

The Unveiling of Mural “Drug Free starts with Me” and commitment signing was lead by OIC ARD Durwin and PDEA Chief Administrative Officer Rosero. The event culminated with drug free activities for the personnel such as Zumba, table tennis and other indoor activities.
